Mr. Cohen has 20 years experience in pure and applied exploration and environmental geochemistry research based in Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America. He is president of the International Association of Applied Geochemists, head of the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at University of New South Wales and was previously chair of the Science Faculty at UNSW.
Mr. Cohen's current research projects include sampling and analytical methods for exploration and environmental geochemistry, environmental geochemical baseline surveys and multivariate data mining. He lectures in environmental and exploration geochemistry, economic geology, geological data processing and statistics methods, and supervises a number of postgraduate research students in geochemistry. He has been a technical consultant to a number of industrial companies and government departments, and has published over 40 papers, book chapters and major government reports.
Alex is one of Canada's leading experts on rare earth geology with more than 35 years of experience in mineral exploration, including prospect generation, regional analysis and economic evaluation. Alex graduated with a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in geology from the University of Calgary and spent more than 10 years as a mineral exploration geologist with Unocal Canada Ltd. He has evaluated most of the known carbonatite and alkalic rock complexes in Canada for niobium and rare earth elements, including the Kipawa Alkalic and Eldor Carbonatite complexes in Quebec. Alex has recently participated in a worldwide comparative study of heavy rare earth element-enriched deposits.
Dr. Mendez has had a distinguished 42 year career as an Economist and Geologist, primarily working in Argentina. Dr. Mendez is currently the advisor for the Post-Graduate Mining career program at the University of Buenos Aires where he was also a Professor of Mining Prospecting and Exploration. Dr. Mendez has received much acclaim for leading the exploration work that culminated with the discovery of the most important rare earth resources in carbonitites in Argentina. He also lead the exploration and negotiation that concluded with the exploitation of Lithium in the "Salar del Hombre Muerto" (Dead Man's Salt Flats) brines, which are in full production in the Province of Catamarca, Argentina.
Much of Dr. Mendez's career has been spent in Argentina with a hands-on approach in the field, focusing on economic evaluation of strategic minerals. Dr. Mendez has directed regional prospecting and exploration programs that include geological, mining and metallogenic charts covering 124,000 sq km in the North-East region of Argentina and 130,000 sq km of the central Andean mountain regions.
